Summer 2013
Root Force is my re-attempt at a Source engine modification, utilizing the skills that I learned in undergrad. The plan is to make a small two or three level mod that has a unique feel to it.
The theme is tech based. Currently, the story is of an IT tech support man who must go into his client’s computers and fix their problems. This can range from a virus, email spam, or an over-abundance of toolbars. This story is not set in stone and is subject to change upon final release.
Currently, only one feature of the game is finished: the “Pointer” weapon. It functions like a boomerang, with a few added features.
- Primary fire throws the Pointer in a straight line, piercing all enemies and returning to the player after a short time.
- Secondary fire targets enemies and hits the selected targets in order (think Legend of Zelda boomerang)
- Overclock is a state that is triggered after the Pointer hits two enemies in a row. When Overclock is triggered, the Pointer flies faster and all subsequent enemies hit are lit on fire and explode. This rewards players who skillfully line up their shots.
This video explains the weapon in more detail and goes over how the code was designed.
